A new concept of material was introduced in 1976 in Europe and United States, a product now known as GRC – Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete.
GRC is not a single material but a family of high-performance cement-based composites reinforced with special alkali resistance glass fibers, which can be engineered to suit wide range of applications.
The glass fibers in this composite increases the tension and impact strength of the material.
Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete jali can easily be incorporated into a matrix of continuous or discontinuous lengths which are easy to handle than traditional concrete made jalis.
GFRC jali is a very light in weight, long-lasting material that can easily be cast into almost unlimited shapes, patterns, and colors.
Another important and quite interesting feature of GRC jali is, it looks like a heavy solid concrete, while it weighs only one-third of the actual weight of a solid concrete. This unique feature makes it ideal for applications in outdoor or indoor where lightweight and strong concrete is preferable.

How Is It Used?
This is primarily used for new constructions as an exterior facade, balconies, shaft or cladding. Even this can be used to restore existing building facades. Generally for these applications, spray-up process is used. GRC Jali is extensively used in applications not requiring a steel stud frame such as column, cornices, capitals, balusters, window, etc. due to its extreme functional flexibility. Many of worlds largest theme parks and zoos use GRC to create rocks capes, replica building and other features.
What are the benefits?
- Heavy Duty and Safe
- Extreme Design flexibility since GRC can be cast to nearly any shape, columns, capitals,
moldings, cornices, window & surrounding, fireplaces and color.
- Low maintenance required
- Easy to installation
- Cost effective
- Weather and Fire resistant
- Nature friendly
- Energy efficient
